BARE SHOULDERS AND BELL SLEEVES: SHOP THE AUSTRALIAN MADE SPRING TRENDS
As the transitionary season of Spring arrives, it’s often a little unnerving to leave the comfort of layers and coats. But, with Melbourne Spring Fashion Week well and truly wrapped up and the latest looks for the season out and about, it’s time to tuck away those cardigans and soak up some Vitamin D!
The latest trend to emerge from Spring runways is the ‘off the shoulder’ look, and with the likes of popular Australian labels Alice McCall, Asilio and Thurley leading the trend, it’s not disappearing any time soon.
It may be intimidating to bare a little skin after hibernating over Winter, but it’s a look that complements and flatters as it emphasises sneaky bare snippets of the shoulders and the softness of the décolletage.
Differing from the staple strapless, the lowered-neckline look combines flirty bare shoulders with sleeves of some sort to maintain an effortless and feminine aesthetic. This look tends to be a little easier to maintain that a traditional strapless dress as there’s no struggle to keep the top in place, and it has the added benefit of keeping the arms warm during cooler nights too.
For those not used to baring their shoulders or for those still stuck on cosying up with layers and full sleeves, ease into this season’s trend with a long-sleeved off the shoulder top, leaving your collar bones bare. Once you’re feeling a little more confident and the Spring heat has really hit, work your way into a minimal sleeve, baring all to really show off those shoulders. Go for bold colours and florals to really make an impression, and team your off the shoulder tops with high waisted pants or shorts for the full look.
