THE DRESS COLLECTIVE'S LATEST ARRIVAL: MARS DA FAVELA FROM MELBOURNE
The Dress Collective is pleased to welcome our latest arrival, Mars da Favela, to our growing Australian-made fashion family! One half of the Mars da Favela jewellery duo hails from Melbourne, Australia, and the other hails from the favelas of Rio, Brazil.
Maka Basilio and Mars Castro created their first jewellery collection utilizing used bullet shells, encasing them with natural Brazilian crystals. Named 'Crystals not Pistols', the first Mars da Favela collection was inspired by life in the favelas (slums) of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The Mars da Favela brand was born out of necessity; reflecting a 'fight for your rights' attitude in a non-violent, anti-glorification manner. Transforming the negativity associated with guns and ammunition into unique and uplifting original designs, Mars da Favela combats corruption with peace and tranquility, empowering people through jewellery and provoking thoughts alike.
Maka and Mars regularly travel to the deep crystal caves of Brazil in search of only the most stunning raw crystals, returning to Melbourne where their studio is now based, to handcraft their coveted hand-carved amethyst and agate rings, druzy earrings, and stalactite pendants.
