THE LATEST COLLECTION FROM OROCÉO CASTRO, LADY GOTH, ARRIVES AT THE DRESS COLLECTIVE
Following on from the success of the debut collection, the latest release from Orocéo Castro has arrived at The Dress Collective. Lady Goth is inspired by gothic architecture and the high-to-late medieval era, reflecting the angular arches, strong shapes and moody color palette of the bygone time.
Drawn to the medieval era for a number of reasons, designer Gene Paolo Castro has seamlessly translated his gothic inspiration into a flowing aesthetic throughout the entire collection. “The façade of Gothic buildings present a strong and robust appearance, but by using large stained glass windows, they achieve an airy and almost ethereal feel on the interior. This was the stark contrast that I wanted to play with in the collection.”
The Lady Goth collection features smooth, curved lines to reflect Gothic arches, and uses textured fabric and sheer panels to achieve the illusion of light and shadow, juxtaposed with a striking monochromatic palette and gingham prints.
Whilst the inspiration is heavy and dark, Gene has remained true to the feminine appeal that Orocéo Castro is known for. “Flattering details like midi-length hems, bishop sleeves and high-thigh slits are used to soften and shape around the body, to maintain our ladylike, modern preppy and uptown aesthetic.”
The Lady Goth collection is the second from the Melbourne based label, and is the strongest yet. Focusing on day-to-night separates, versatile mix-and-match pieces and a trans-seasonal outlook with a sustainable focus in mind, the entire Lady Goth collection is easily worked into the everyday-woman’s wardrobe.
